Kyle Lutzka, Kenny Mellin and Andy Welinski scored and Jo Jo Jeannetta stopped 18 of 19 shots as Duluth East defeated Roseau 3-1 in the Minnesota Class 2A high school boys hockey consolation championship game Saturday afternoon at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis.
Sophomore defenseman Nate Repensky added two assists for the Greyhounds, who went 2-1 in the tournament and finished 21-6-4 overall.
Duluth East and Roseau meet at noon today for fifth-place in the Minnesota Class 2A high school boys hockey tournament, at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis. The Greyhounds lost to Hill-Murray 5-3 in a quarterfinals Thursday at Excel Energy Center in St. Paul, and defeated Lakeville North 4-2 in a consolation semifinal game Friday at Mariucci. The Greyhounds are 20-6-4 overall. No TV.
Duluth East, led by senior guard Dyami Starks and sophomore power forward Johnny Woodard, faces Coon Rapids in a Section 7AAAA high school boys basketball semifinal at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Elk River. Anoka and Forest Lake meet in the second semifinal game at 8 p.m. The Greyhounds are 19-8 overall.
Meantime, Duluth Central lost to Cloquet 75-48 Friday in the Section 7AAA boy’s basketball semifinals. Jodeston Robinson had 12 points and Darcell Williams 10 for the Trojans, who finished their season 11-16.
