U.S. Sens. Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Rep. Jim Oberstar (D-Minn.) today announced a $200,000 grant for Lake Superior College’s Center for Advanced Aviation. The grant comes from the Department of Education (DOE).
“It’s absolutely paramount that tomorrow’s pilots receive the best training and education available,” said Sen. Franken. “This grant will ensure that Lake Superior College’s flight training keeps pace with the best programs in the nation.”
“Skilled pilots are essential to maintaining the air transportation network that connects our nation’s economy,” said Sen. Klobuchar. “This grant will ensure that Lake Superior College has the tools to continue to successfully prepare future pilots.”
“Piece by piece Duluth’s economic development team is building a vibrant aviation industry in Northeast Minnesota,” said Rep. Oberstar. “Lake Superior College is a top notch school, it will train tomorrow’s pilots and technicians and play a vital part in the long term effort to diversify the region’s economy and create jobs.”
The DOE funds will be used to upgrade the functional capabilities of one of the center’s existing flight simulators, adding a full visual display screen and new functionality.
